Prof. Mohammad Asaad Ghazal earned his Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) from Concordia University, Canada, in 2010 and 2006, respectively, and was awarded an Alexander Graham Bell Fellowship from NSERC and QFRNT from the Government of Quebec. He earned his B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the American University of Sharjah, where he received the President’s Cup and the Ministry of Education’s Shield for Creative Thinking. Prof. Ghazal is the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering at Abu Dhabi University and a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering. During his tenure, the department grew from 40 to over 800 students and the College to over 3000 students, making it the largest engineering college in the UAE. The number of programs in the College grew to 14 undergraduate programs, five postgraduate programs, and nine concentrations. He has received numerous awards, including Dhs1,000,000 from the UAE Prime Minister’s Office for an innovative mobile app during the 2015 Government Summit, the distinguished Faculty Award from Abu Dhabi University in 2014 and 2016, and the Abu Dhabi University Research Fellow in 2018. He was also inducted into the American University of Sharjah Hall of Fame by Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi in 2018. He is the author of over 300 publications in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, and the Internet of Things in leading journals and conferences, including Scientific Reports, Medical Physics, IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, and IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics. He is an IEEE Senior Member, a Senior Fellow of Advance HE, and an ABET program evaluator for the Engineering Accreditation Commission for Computer Engineering and Telecommunication Engineering with over 6 US-based and international visits. He has over 4600 citations and an h-index of 35 and has been added to Standford University’s list of the top 2% of scientists. Over the year, he has attracted over AED 7 million in research grants.
